On April 13, 2026, the executives and staff of the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University, led by Assoc. Prof. Phisit Seesuriyachan, Ph.D., Vice Dean, participated in the parade in unity. The university’s Buddha image procession float was featured as the 12th parade entry in the Lanna New Year (Pi Mai Mueang) Festival, aiming to preserve and continue the rich cultural heritage of the Lanna community.
On this occasion, Chiang Mai University presented a grand procession comprising the university banner, executive members, traditional dancers and “Klong Tueng Nong” musicians from the Lanna Folk Club, the Chiang Mai University Student Union, the ceremonial “Cho Chang” procession, contemporary Pi Nae musicians, as well as representatives from various faculties, offices, and institutes. More than 500 members of the CMU community took part, all elegantly dressed in traditional northern Thai attire, creating a vibrant atmosphere that beautifully reflected the unique identity of Lanna culture.
A key highlight of the procession was the ceremonial float carrying “Phra Phuttha Phing Nakhonaphimonkol,” the principal Buddha image of Chiang Mai University. The image was gracefully enshrined on an intricately designed float that harmoniously blended faith with local artistry through contemporary bamboo craftsmanship, showcasing the wisdom of Lanna heritage in a modern form.
The Buddha procession during the “Pi Mai Mueang” festival, organized by Chiang Mai Municipality, is one of the province’s most significant events. It offers both locals and visitors the opportunity to pay respect and perform the traditional water-pouring ritual over revered Buddha images from various temples, amidst an atmosphere of faith, beauty, and the distinctive charm of Lanna cultural identity.
