Driving the Bioeconomy for Sustainable Wildfire Management
Associate Professor Dr. Yuthana Phimolsiripol, Dean of the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University, was invited to serve as the moderator for the panel discussion entitled "Turning the Wildfire Crisis into a Bioeconomy Opportunity: The 'Collect Instead of Burn' Model for Income Generation" on 25 June 2026 at the Highlight Stage, Centara Grand at CentralWorld and Bangkok Convention Centre, Bangkok.
The discussion provided a platform for experts from various sectors to exchange perspectives and experiences on biomass fuel management and the utilization of agricultural residues under the "Collect Instead of Burn" approach. The session emphasized the efficient use of biological resources to reduce wildfires and PM2.5 air pollution while creating added economic value and generating income for local communities, thereby supporting the advancement of the bioeconomy and sustainable development.
The forum also brought together representatives from academia, government agencies, and the private sector to share ideas and explore collaborative approaches for maximizing the value of biological resources, reducing open burning, and promoting biomass utilization as a pathway toward a sustainable bioeconomy and long-term national development.
